Swegreen Enters the FoodTech 500 List

Swegreen has recently been recognized as one of the world’s top-ranked agtech companies by qualifying for the prestigious international "FoodTech 500" list. "This is a confirmation of our position within the vertical farming industry," says Swegreen’s CEO, Pierre Mohlin.

"Vertical farming" refers to the innovative method of indoor farming in stacked layers using LED lighting. Companies in vertical farming are strongly represented on the global FoodTech 500 list, highlighting the industry's crucial role in the future of agriculture.

Swegreen has now made its debut on the FoodTech 500, an annual ranking of the world's top 500 startups in the foodtech industry. The list is compiled by Forward Fooding, a U.S.-based data and consultancy firm, and has been published since 2019. It features global entrepreneurial talents who are shaping the future by combining food, technology, and sustainability in their business models.

"We are proud to be among the companies on the FoodTech 500. It confirms our position within the vertical farming industry. We have created a solid solution, the world’s most efficient in-store farming system, and a business model that contributes to the production of hyper-local, sustainable, and high-quality vegetables inside grocery stores and restaurants," says Pierre Mohlin.

The FoodTech 500 uses a unique method to rank international startup and scale-up companies within foodtech, based on company size, digital footprint, and sustainability practices. "The mission of the FoodTech 500 is to spotlight the leading global innovators in the food tech ecosystem, from farm to fork," says Alessio D’Antonio, founder and CEO of Forward Fooding.

In the 2021 FoodTech list, where Swegreen enters at position 273, the top 50 global vertical farming companies are represented, ranging from North American giants to leading European players like Plenty, Infarm, Bowery Farming, and Square Roots. Swegreen now joins these companies as one of the youngest, yet fastest-growing, with its unique niche and innovation: the world’s most efficient in-store farming system.

"The FoodTech 500 list clearly highlights the powerful forces driving a brighter future for the food sector. We are one of the companies that have developed impactful solutions to address the unsustainable global food system. Being recognized as a global leader in food technology is a well-deserved acknowledgment for us at Swegreen, and it places our company among other prominent leaders in the field," says Sepehr Mousavi, Chief Innovation Officer at Swegreen.
