Swegreen launches their largest in-store farm – now fully operational at ICA Maxi Ängelholm
Swegreen takes a historic step in the grocery retail industry by having now commissioned and fully operationalized their largest in-store farm at ICA Maxi Ängelholm. With this state-of-the-art farming solution, the ICA retailer creates a unique competitive advantage while paving the way for a more sustainable and profitable grocery business.
The vertical farming facility allows ICA Maxi Ängelholm to harvest over 160,000 plants annually with minimal resource consumption – 99% less water usage, zero pesticides, and radically reduced transportation costs. The vegetables and herbs are grown directly in the store, ensuring they are always fresh at the time of purchase and free from long distribution chains.

Profitable Sustainability – A New Era for Grocery Retail
For grocery retailers, Swegreen’s in-store farming is a commercially attractive solution that strengthens the store’s sustainability profile while increasing sales through a differentiated and premium customer experience.
Increased margins and better price stability – Locally produced goods reduce price volatility and dependence on external suppliers.
Enhanced customer loyalty – In-store farming provides a unique shopping experience and positions the store as a forward-thinking market leader.
Cost-effective and sustainable operations – Reduced waste, no need for long-distance transportation, and minimal resource consumption.
“This is more than a sustainability investment – it’s a business game-changer for the grocery industry,” says Pierre Mohlin, Partner at Swegreen. “Our solution proves that the future of retail can be both profitable and climate-smart.”

Capital Market Interest in the Future of Food Production
Investments in hyper-local and resource-efficient food production have surged in the global capital market. Swegreen’s technology platform, now scalable and commercially proven in a retail environment, creates new opportunities for venture capital and institutional investors to position themselves within the rapidly growing agritech and vertical farming segment.
“The fact that four major ICA retailers chose to extend their partnerships for up to five years in the fall of 2024 proves that our technology works on a large scale and can be seamlessly integrated into grocery retail,” continues Pierre Mohlin. “We see strong demand from both retailers and investors who want to be part of the next major shift in the food sector.”
