Swegreen's first harvest at Ica Maxi Linköping
The first crops from the in-store farm at Ica Maxi Linköping have grown and are ready for customers to shop—freshly harvested, flavorful, and nutrient-packed leafy greens.
After weeks of installation and fine-tuning of the world’s most climate-smart and efficient vertical farming system, Sweden's largest in-store farm is now ready to deliver its first harvest of tech-grown herbs and salads. The first crops available to customers include crispy lettuce, oak leaf lettuce, basil, cilantro, and dill.
"We are incredibly proud to offer our customers these locally produced leafy greens, which are much larger and more flavorful than anything I’ve ever seen of this kind," says store manager Johan Vanselius.
Swegreen's in-store farm, which uses hydroponic growing techniques combined with an AI-based control system, is a world-first that is attracting significant interest from both consumers and the industry at large.
"The fact that the people of Linköping and all shoppers at Ica Maxi in Linköping can now take home and taste these crops is a big deal and incredibly exciting. It's something we’ve all been looking forward to for a long time. I’m confident that everyone will be amazed by both the incredible growth and the intense flavors of our Swegreens," says Swegreen CEO Andreas Dahlin.
Ica Maxi in Linköping is the first supermarket in the country to offer freshly harvested herbs and lettuce, grown from seed to fully mature plant inside the store. Once the farm reaches full capacity, several hundred fresh leafy greens will be available to customers every day.
